Fudge Kitchen is a renowned British confectionery brand that specialises in making handmade fudge. They had been using a bespoke website and fulfilment technology, but they wanted to upgrade their capabilities and customer experience. After a brief consultation period, quickly it was decided that they would re-platform to Shopify and Shipstation.
The first challenge was to build and test the functions needed within Shipstation to streamline Fudge Kitchen’s stock management operations. A custom Shopify app was created for order allocation, containing logic related to it. The app rotated through tags to apply to Shopify orders and, in turn, connected with Shipstation to communicate order information to corresponding shops for fulfilment.
Fudge Kitchen wanted to improve their customers’ shopping experience by upgrading their website’s UX, as the old website looked dated and lacked modern features. Adding confidence-building features on product pages, allowing quick access to key features and benefits. It was also requested that customers could split their orders to send gifts to different recipients in a single order. Allowing for pre-order gifts which have blocked dates in the shipping calendar for available dates at the product level. Customers could now explicitly see their chosen dispatch date and estimated delivery date, improving their understanding of these differences.
Improvements were made to the donation options at checkout, allowing customers to choose from two different causes and automatically donating a portion of their purchase to Fareshare if the order was over £10. They wanted the ability to record all donations for monitoring and reporting purposes, including the source and story behind each donation. This is also now visible on the front end with their impacts total.
Our development team created a custom Build-a-Box app that allowed customers to select a dispatch date and choose from available products/flavours. This ensured the products/flavours displayed were correct for that dispatch date, and all unavailable flavours were not visible. In the back end, Fudge Kitchen’s team could set a start and end date for each product/flavour to become available…and not available, respectively.

Overall, the project has proved to be a huge success. The digitalbeans team successfully delivered bespoke Shopify apps, which gives the Fudge Kitchen team much-desired functionality to take their store to the next level.
We also migrated Fudge Kitchen’s thousands of customer data, orders, and loyalty points from their bespoke website to Shopify. This process ensured that the client’s customer information was saved, and their orders and loyalty points were maintained.
Improving the user experience is resulting in improvements in engagement and conversion rates. Transforming the product pages with added icons for quick reference to key features and benefits, more elements for further product details such as FAQs, reviews, additional product details, and promotional messages and much-needed easier navigation making the website much more accessible for potential customers.
Replatforming to Shopify and Shipstation and the addition of customizations like the Build-a-Box app and donation options at checkout helped Fudge Kitchen improve their customer experience and streamline their operations.
